Accept Credit Card Payment For Small Business
Starting a small business requires that you be able to accept credit card payment for most transactions. No matter if you are selling online or in a small store, you really benefit from accepting different forms of payment. Many people no longer carry much cash so a cash-only business isn’t really the best option for salespeople. Recently I visited a consignment shop that was filled with great items for children. After shopping for about an hour, I had my basket full of clothes and toys that I couldn't wait to get home. However, when I discovered that the owner didn't know how to accept credit card payment for the transaction, I wound up leaving the things behind. The items were left in the store and I had every intention of running to the bank to get the necessary cash to make the purchase. Then I noticed what time it was and I knew that I needed to get home. There just wasn’t time for me to do all of that running around. If the store owner knew how to accept credit card payment for the items I would have been on my way in no time. Accepting Credit Card Payment Ironically, I found myself in the opposite predicament. I was commissioned to complete a portrait of a pet for a lady who lives out of state. She wanted to pay with her Visa but I didn’t know how to accept credit card payment online. She wound up sending a check and I had to wait until it cleared before starting the project. As it turned out, she was pleased with the final product but she was really taken back by how long the whole process took. She also thought that I should learn how to accept credit card payment in order to conduct business on a professional level. She loved the drawing but my business approach was beyond reproach according to her experience. Don't Lose Potential Customers Having had the negative experience in the consignment shop (I haven’t been back to the store) made me realize that I might be losing potential customers just because I don’t know how to accept credit card payment online. If I want to progress my business to the next stage, I need to do a little research. Every now and again I pass the consignment shop and I saw that the business was closing. The merchant might still be in business if he learned how to accept credit card payment for his customers. I think that I need to learn the same lesson as well.
