How To Start Your Own Record Label
Learning how to start your own record label is a bit easier than most people would think. You see, there isn't that much to starting a record label. It used to cost many times as much as it does now, but thanks to advances in digital technology, you can probably start a record label with your own home computer and a few thousand dollars worth of equipment. The difficulty is not with learning how to start your own record label. That part is easy. The difficulty is making that record label profitable. I have a friend who recently decided to start an indie record label. It goes without saying that he did not consciously do so to make money. In the indie rock world, if you make a profit you are almost guaranteed to be viewed as a sellout. He did it for the love of the music, or at least he thought he did. How To Start Your Own Record Label On the inside, however, he had been harboring a secret wish to make it big as a record producer. He had taken a course on how to start your own business before, and had many dreams of independence and fame and fortune. It is not hard to understand why. After working in retail despite having a college degree, he was sick of being broke and unappreciated. Nonetheless, things didn't go the way that he wanted. The key to how to start your own record label isn't really about the equipment, or even the music. The key is about people. Starting a record label, unfortunately, has very little to do with art. It is good to know a few talented bands, but it is better to know a few talented producers. It is even better to know some promoters, especially ones with big industry connections. You can work all you want on how to start your own record label, but unless you have the connections, it is unlikely that anyone will ever listen to your music. Sure, you can circulate it around on the Internet, but this has never made anyone rich, and few people have even been able to make a living at it. In my friend's case, he lost a lot more money than he made. Starting his own record label was a big risk for him, and he really couldn't afford the losses that he took. Soon, he was selling off all of his equipments to pay rent. If you are wondering how to start your own record label, here is my advice: don't!
